What Is On Top for me? (ANSWER REVEALED!!!)

Lego EV3 puzzle box machine

The Mindstorms EV3 Brick
I started building a Lego Puzzle Box Machine a while ago, so I have built most of it (The puzzle box, the outside and top and most of the dispensing bit). In the weekend I finished attaching the colour sensor underneath, so it knows what coins you put in.

If you put in either a NZ 20C or an NZD 50C coin, the EV3 brick says "O.K" and it dispenses a Lego Puzzle Box. (The puzzle box DOES have a time limit.) It has a push sensor hidden in it, so when you push the final piece in place it sends a signal to the EV3 Brick. After that it dispenses a Kool Mint (The mints are hidden is the large spiralling top.) If you want more Kool mints, you push a button at the bottom you won't have to solve the puzzle box again.

The Learning Pit

In GRi11, we have this thing called The Learning Pit. It is for challenging yourself, trying and trying again. E.G. We did this challenge with a balloon- powered car (Ours came 3rd!) and we didn't get it the first time. Also in MindLab we did the fan-powered car. Here is a graphic design to help you understand.  Here it is

Back to school: What I did in the holidays

On Tuesday, 29th of September 2015, at 6.00 AM My family and I drove down to Christchurch for my sister's hockey tournament. We drove from Palmerston North down to Wellington, on the Picton ferry , and drove down the East Coast of the South Island to Christchurch, and arrive 6:30 PM. It was a VERY long and tiresome journey, taking 9 hours 31 mins ONE WAY. My sister's team (Manawatu U15 Rep Championship)  came 7th out of 17.

My holiday was excellent!

The MindLab!!!

On Tuesday, 22nd of September 2015, what we were waiting for came. We had been selling GRi11 Industries products, (Practical objects we had made ourselves) We were fundraising to go to The MindLab in Petone.  Finally the day came, and we engrossed ourselves in Robotics and programming. There were 5 main activities, Car Building, ScribbleBot Building, Stop Motion Animation, Makey Makey Makey and 3D printing. In this I'll explain what each was about.

 Car Building

In this you had to build a car with CDs, Foam Packing, Cardboard, Straws, and Skewers, a motor and battery box, and a fan.

 ScribbleBot Building

In this you had to build a drawing robot with the same materials as the car, but also with plastic cups, pens and a off-centre dongle.

Stop Motion Animation

For this you took heaps of photos while moving something at the same time so it looks like a video.

Makey Makey

Makey Makey is an epic circuit board type thing. If you plug one and into basically anything, if you touch that thing it actually renders!

3D Printing

The final thing, and my favourite was 3D Printing. With 3D printing you can design 3D Objects and actually "Print" them. You probably have heard about it before, but I would 100% recommend.

MindLab was amazing, and I hope you want to go.

Proactive Lip Balm

Before R.O.B.O. Cam, my group tried many ideas, and we chose Lip Balm. We came up with recipes and stuff, but no, it would not work. We were soooo surprised in a vote, because 17 people choose our Proactive Lip Balm as one of their 3 choices. We still changed to R.O.B.O. Cam after a lady showed us Swivl

Before: Swivl

This is Swivl. A robot that uses an infrared sensor to detect where you are and "Swivl" Around to record you. Pretty simple, right? This term for Integration we are doing business, and we need to invent a product NOT ON THE MARKET. My group of Tom, Sam, Matty and I are building R.O.B.O Cam, or Swivl 2.0. It will be Swivl, but with wheels and pistons so it is Just as good as a robotic cameraman. Actually it is the first!

A few weeks ago, Matty, Thomas, Sam,  Josh, Mr R and I discovered Vex, a Building toy / Robotics kit.
We wrote a letter to the Board of Trustees  and made a presentation. It was AWESOME!!! We are going to start a robotics club.

Green Pastures Camp Poem

In extension writing we had to write a poem about camp. ( In class I wrote the one about the air rifle ) This is my one about the mud run.

STUCK

Stuck!
Trying to move, but I am trapped.
Uncomfortable mud grips my skin,
Coating me from head to toe,
Knowing this camp will be great!

Picture Writing

“Hey I know that guy!” ”REALLY??” "Yeah he’s in my class at school!” "Maybe you've got him mixed up with another guy"”That’s definitely him. I came to this thing to watch a famous obstacle course but JEREMY??? COMPETING???”

The first obstacle was the spinning bridge. Jeremy handled that like he was walking across the lounge. But next, the infamous mud came. He pushed and shoved his way through it, but he never made it. The presenters were both shocked. “Sorry, all you audience have come unprepared, but one of you will have to take his place.”

The next moments of my life were a blur. But the next thing I remember I was struggling through that mud. Have you done the mud run at Camp Green Pastures? 5 times harder. If your unfit father sees someone on TV again and says “I can do that!” Correct him his time.

I was almost finished. Almost there. The crowd was cheering me on. I felt the ledge. I pulled myself up… I did it! I completed the mud! But there was still one obstacle left…

I never did it. I never made it. The presenters were both shocked. “Sorry, all you audience have come unprepared, but one of you will have to take his place.”

My favourite thing to do

My favourite thing to do is Lego .

A small pile of Lego bricks
Lego is a building toy, which I think you have heard of before. You buy sets of interlocking bricks, and put them together to make a creation. But you can also make up your own creations, like I made a gumball machine. There are heaps of different types of Lego sets, from Lego Star Wars to Lego Technic. There is even a type where you can make robots!!! Here are some pictures of Lego designs adults made.
